a place in the sun exhibition logo I am also organising a large protest at the “A Place in the Sun Live” exhibition, the NEC Birmingham 1st - 3rd October 2010. I am liaising with both the NEC and the West Midlands Police for this protest so please email ASAP if you wish to attend.

a place in the sunOur family protested outside the “A Place in the Sun Live” exhibition 27th & 28th March 2010. We raised awareness of the pitfalls of buying property in the Republic of Cyprus.

In our case the Attorney-General could not see a criminal offense when our developer resold our house despite it being registered to us in the Lands Registry. This precedent means any other developers could also unilaterally cancel your contract, sell your house to another, keep all your money and leave you waiting years for the civil courts to hear your case.

Last year the Minister of the Interior made a statement to reassure those in the title deeds mess. In it he said:-

“... It must also become clear that the ownership status of a buyer-owner of immovable property in Cyprus is definitely secured and cannot be challenged, as long as the buyer-owner has submitted the buying-contract to the Department of Lands and Surveys.”

Our contract is in the lands registry and our money has been in the developers bank since 2005, this is why we are paying for a Private Criminal Prosecution against Christoforos Karayiannas & Son Ltd and the unlawful occupant of our house.

The protest was covered by the Cyprus Mail and discussed on the Eastern Cyprus forum, The Cyprus living forum here and here and the Paphos People forum.
